Mechanical Inspector

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, a heavy manufacturing operation requires a Mechanical Inspector to support plant reliability through structured inspections, condition monitoring, and preventive maintenance optimisation. The role focuses on assessing equipment condition, analysing trends, and identifying maintenance actions while operating within production constraints.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric
- Trade Test with NTC 4 in Mechanical Engineering AND 5 years’ heavy engineering maintenance experience OR SAQA-accredited BTech / National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with maintenance systems experience
- Mechanical Inspector experience is advantageous
- SAP, MS Office, and spreadsheet proficiency
- A disciplined, detail-focused role in a high-compliance, production-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned inspections and safety checks across plant equipment
- Analyse plant downtime, SAP data, and MIS reports to determine equipment health
- Initiate and manage maintenance work orders via SAP (CMMS)
- Coordinate statutory and ISO-related inspections (pressure vessels, lifting equipment, transformers, electrical equipment)
- Improve preventive maintenance schedules using reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) principles
- Maintain accurate equipment history and specifications on SAP
- Identify root causes of repetitive failures and drive corrective actions
- Perform standby duties and overtime when required
