Reporting into the CEO, and the Board with a dotted line to the Head of Finance and Treasury of the holding company. Our client is seeking a strategic, commercially minded individual (Expat) who, preferably based in Zimbabwe (or willing to work five days a week in-country, if fly in/fly out), will play a ‘leader of leaders’ role in heading the financial management of a group of mines that has interests in precious metal assets.

You will be required to deep dive in the business and get to know the assets first-hand, as a result, you will be required to travel to the areas within Zimbabwe where the assets are kept. A trip to the mines will take about 3 – 4 days. It is important to note that the expectations are that you will be based and available to travel locally within Zimbabwe from Mondays to Fridays.

You will provide visionary leadership in the development and execution of the business and financial strategy for the Group as well as have accountability for its financial health and governance. You are ultimately accountable for accounting practices, overall financial management and budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting within the Corporation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up the business head office in Harare in Zimbabwe, he/she will have to find suitable commercial space, oversee any renovations (under an approved budget) and set up a workable space for the mine group’s head office staff and exco team.

Key Result Areas:

  • Provides input into company, vision, direction, and strategy in terms of the commercial and regulatory environment
  • Develop and implement the Group’s financial plans, policies, and procedures in alignment with the approved business strategy
  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with various banks as well as RBZ (Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe)
  • Ensure the existence of robust financial risk management strategies and policies to mitigate risks that face the Group.
  • Implement continuous financial auditing and control systems to evaluate and monitor business performance
  • Implement and ensure compliance with accounting standards and policies as well as best practices that are sustainable to the Group.
  • Drive, control and evaluate the Group’s fundraising initiatives and capital structures
  • Implementation, ongoing development and monitoring of internal control ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics) designed to preserve assets and to report accurate financial results in accordance with group reporting standards and deadlines.
  • Manage and maintain the IT assets within the business, ensuring procurement under company policies as well as mitigating risk through insurance on these and all other business assets
  • Provide to the Board assurance that the proper systems and actions are in place to identify and manage business risks and that such risks are within the guidelines established by the Board of directors
  • Ensure the Group has a sustainable balance sheet structure focusing on funding, capital management, and asset quality
  • All financial aspects, including treasury, tax, and audit

Skills Required

Essential Education and Experience

  • Qualified CA(SA)
  • Minimum of 10 -15 years proven senior management experience,
  • Experience in the setup, implementation, and maintenance of an ERP system
  • Reserve Bank exposure and knowledge (non-negotiable)
  • Multinational experience essential
  • Transfer pricing exposure
  • Strong IFRS and tax knowledge within different (tax) regions, experience in Zimbabwean tax – an advantage. Must have exposure to withholdings tax and complex international tax setups and regulations.
  • Knowledge, insight, and experience in facilitating the effective management of the full Finance function. Preference will be given to individuals that have set up finance teams and departments.
