An exciting opportunity for an energetic young Operations Manager to be part of managing the groups retail stores in Northern Zululand, KZN, as well as the launching and development of their smaller discount retail store groups. The group of companies is well established and has an annual turnover exceeding R 1 billion. Ideally you speak English and Zulu and happy to travel to branches in Zululand weekly or be based up in Zululand.

Key Result Areas:

  • Primary responsibility is ensuring our Customers are best served through organised and well-run Operations.
  • Providing the leadership and support to our instore teams.
  • As part of the executive committee, this position contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.
  • Exert authority and assume accountability, together with exec team for stores and their respective managers and sub-departments.
  • Full liaison and responsibility for relationship building with suppliers through the buyer and with the service providers. 
  • Manage Assets in such a manner as to maximize return on investment while minimizing risk, and while also ensuring that an adequate control structure is in place over the transfer of, sale of and investment in Assets.
  • Revamping of stores and departments and the project management of them.
  • Financial analysis in such areas as forecasting, budgeting, engaging in cost reduction analysis, and reviewing operational performance. 
  • In the role of Operations Manager, show tangible evidence that he/she is contributing by his duties/responsibilities & authorities to the improvement of the net profitability & to set up structures to report this to Exco.

 



Skills Required

Education

  • Tertiary qualification. 

 

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Business experience and 2-5 years of progressive responsibility experience for a major company or division of a large corporation – an advantage. 
  • Operation’s experience in a retail environment – essential
  • Experience and understanding of service departments (Butchery, Bakery, Take Away) or manufacturing experience.
  • Financially literate
  • Advanced computer literacy - Advanced Excel essential.
  • Understanding of continues improvement.
  • Good communication skills in English as well as Zulu.
