Our client is seeking a Leader who has gained extensive experience within a heavy manufacturing environment, managed production staff in excess of 80 and managed a budget in excess of R100 million.

You will be responsible for ensuring machine shop production targets, are achieved or exceeded to allow supply chain to meet customer delivery dates.

Machine Shop Production

  • Review of current production processes to ensure achievement of the production targets.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products.
  • Ensuring the timeous delivery of parts to final inspection to ensure smooth and continuous production.
  • Report on departmental performance, efficiency ratios and maintenance adherence on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis
  • Analyse and review departmental performance and provide recommendations to Foreman on gains/improvements.

Machine Shop Quality

  • Daily identification / monitoring of scrap components and implementation of corrective action.
  • Liaison with machine quality control management to improve quality and reduce machine waiting times.
  • Manage the operational equipment/resources required weekly/monthly/quarterly.

Machine Shop Manpower/Training/Succession

  • Continual review of manpower requirements to meet production commitments.
  • Manage the assessment, mentoring, discipline, communication and training of machine shop supervisory personnel.


  • In consultation with the procurement department, review of all consumables and raw materials to ensure competitive prices on the highest quality products.
  • Ensure the availability of tooling and consumables for uninterrupted production.
  • Review of machine shop management accounts to analyse trends and review monthly budgets.


  • Promotion of good health and safety principles in order to reduce accidents.


  • Identify improvement projects with regards to overall equipment efficiencies.
  • Identify and implement safety projects with regards to equipment within machine shop.


  • Encourage constructive open communication and fair disclosure of all reporting in Machine Shop.
  • Ensure integrity, timeliness and relevance of information is provided weekly/ monthly/quarterly to various stakeholders

Skills Required


  • Matriculation or Equivalent
  • Post matric technical qualification or diploma.
  • Management diploma would be advantageous.


  • 10 years in similar or related position.
  • Manufacturing senior management position.
