Production & Maintenance Manager

GMR2 appointee for the facility. To achieve world-class manufacturing targets through sound management skills in line with lean manufacturing principles as contained in the company Business System.

In the process ensure that customer deliveries are met On Time at the cost-effective manufacturing cost with the right quality first time. And further to manage the maintenance department to ensure that the optimum productive value and life of all fixed moveable assets at the Vanderbijlpark facility.

Managing the performance and conduct of the production supervisors and maintenance team leader engaged in these processes / activities. Ensuring that safety, housekeeping and SABS ISO standards are maintained.  


  • Safety, People Management and Meetings - Ensure full compliance to all national OHS Act
  • Production - Achieve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) target within set Operational target levels. Conduct Kaizen events in your area of responsibility and compile weekly progress reports.
  • Maintenance - Implement and manage Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program according to all Group requirements. Plan and implement routine preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimum machine performance / condition and maximized production runtime.
  • Quality Control - Ensure all products are manufactured to Group Quality Procedure Manual standards
  • Reports and Internal Relations -On a daily basis ensure that line operations attain target volumes on time and in full to customers. Attend daily production meetings. Attend action plan meeting to optimize plant capacity and run time. Attend weekly planning meetings with Commercial and Logistics to ensure production capacity is aligned to customer demand. Manage and oversee cycle counts and full stock takes, monthly and annually.
  • Manage factory controllable costs - Appropriate systems in place to monitor and manage factory expenses (maintenance items, consumables, overtime, manning etc).  
  • Internal audits and managing findings -Ensure internal audits are conducted for ISO/GMP/5S audits and involve teams in improvement actions. Follow up and ensure actioning of findings from ISO/GMP/5S audits – improving trend in ISO/GMP/5S audit is evident.
  • General Deal with customer complaints in line with company procedures / visit customers when required. Assist with troubleshooting and solving of technical problems on the line. Liaising with suppliers in terms of all technical issues relating to paint, linings and solvents.


Skills Required



  • Engineering Degree (preferably in mechanical engineering, or electrical)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Factories) (GCC)
  • Advanced Management Qualification
  • Productivity Certificate or Diploma
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing


  • Min 8 years’ experience in a Production / Maintenance environment of a manufacturing entity.
  • 4/5 years’ experience in a management capacity.
  • Computer Literacy – working with an integrated ERP system (LN preferred) and also working on - MS Office (Word, Excel, PP, MS Project, )
  • Managing Processes and Process Improvement
  • Sound knowledge of MEIBC Main agreement, BCEA and labour relations act.
  • Good understanding of the OHS Act.
  • Knowledge of Corporate governance principles applicable to the procurement processes.
  • Tracking and reducing manufacturing waste using OPEX initiatives.
  • Strategic planning
  • Strong in Maintenance Management Strategies (Preventative, predictive and asset registers)
